Hema Malini - In an exclusive rendezvous with Lipika Varma
Hema Malini is all excited about directing not only Easha [daughter] but Dharmji too in her film,”Tell Me Oh Khudda.”.” Yes! I am not only over whelmed as I have been bestowed upon the chance of directing not only Dharmji my Hubby but my daughter too simultaneously. God has been very considerate and looks like this opportunity has been given only too me. It is once in a life time that one gets something which is given and meant for her and only her!” smiles blushingly.
She goes on to add,” Directing my daughter was especially very happening merely because I could bring out the best in her. I can never forget one of the memorable anecdotes behind the scene an anecdote…The scene was like Easha had to mount on a camel. I wanted the scene to be canned in a typical manner…According to my screen play the camel had to enter the cameras while Easha had to run with the camel and then get on to his hunch back and be seated on him. Initial Easha was shocked that I was just joking so she inquired me,” Are you sure mom that you want me run along the camel and sit on it….is it not dangerous enough! But I said,” Come on do it” and I bet my last penny the scene being showcased in the promos has brought all reasons for me to feel happy enough watching Easha do all the stunts and other stuff by herself. As a film maker I find her sexy, peppy and foot-tapping number with Salman Khan is indeed a boon to the film. Why should I feel hesitant to shoot her in this sexy number? Actually to me she looks stunning in this song. We have got a good response too and this makes me proud about my daughter’s sizzling persona.”
Hema has dedicated enough time and has played as the friend, mentor to her daughters while promoting both their career and building their persona.” Yes! I had taken a back-seat as far as my career is concerned while both Easha and Aahana were small. They are my darling daughters for a mother her kids are very precious. These gals would always want me to be next to them even while doing their home work. I am more like a friend to them. Not only I but all mother’s do their duty of inculcating the right values in their kids I did give them all the time needed in building up their personality ,thus until their adolescent age which is a very tender age I remained next to them. Today I am very confident that my daughters will always chose doing the right things. “
Holding her breath for a while refreshing how she would rush back home while she was directing Din Ashana hai she quips,” My daughters would want be immediately while they would return back from school. I would rush on time. I remember while Shahrukh allowed me to go, he took the reins of direction for the number of hours I would come back on sets. This is how I managed to give all the time my daughters needed at that hour. Now they are grown up but I am happy they look up to me for all the advice and also follow it religiously. My daughters are my capital.”
Easha and Ahana can chose a man on their own. “Well! My mom was very strict but I am quite friendly to both of them. They are open to fall for any man may be from their work place or outside the industry. All as a mother I would want is that the man needs to be descent and a good human being as well .One who would love and respect and also give enough space to the women.”
Being in today’s world of Glitz and Glamour from a long time, and giving away the success mantra of her marriage to Dharmji, Hemaji knows the importance of a man and she is also very orthodox as far as respecting a relationship is concerned.” Yes! I am of the opinion that in a relationship a woman needs to respect a man whole heartedly. She should never forget our culture that after all a man is a man. His egos should not be hurt. As a woman one should know what her husband likes and dislikes, she should take care likewise. Not always a man is to be blamed for broken marriages. Women need not have the attitude of dominating their man. But yes! In today’s times many relationships tend to break, so what I mean to say is that even a man needs to give space, love and respect to his woman. Any relationship be it friendship, family bonding or a man woman relationship has to be handled smoothly both ways. Both need to love each other without an iota of expectations.”
Hema regrets only one thing guess what?” Sometimes I do feel why I decided to direct Easha for Tell Me O Khudda now. I should have infact launched her then. But as you know she started getting offers and has done many films, I cannot claim to do it now. I am satisfied that I am directing her in TMOK. Also I bet my last penny she has done a wonderful job. Yes! Being in the industry for so many years I have learnt to overcome all the nervousness and learnt going the encouraging way. In TMOK I have made Easha fully aware of all the behind scenes accomplishments. She has helped me in every sphere of film making.Easha has also handled production, editing etc.”
She goes on to add,” Dharmji has supported me a lot while I decided to venture into directing TMOK. He has been very obedient while I was directing him. We would discuss few things even at home. Yes! I know my fans are longing to watch me and Dharmji together on the silver screen this can happen only if we get a brilliant script.”
Hemaji gave away a secret turning emotional she says,” Aahana is infact writing a wonderful script for me and she has been pestering me that her protagonist has to be me and only me. She is completing the script if I find the script alluring enough I will go ahead and produce/direct and act in it. Also if Dharmji will agree and if there is a suitable role than we will both be seen in this venture which is yet not finalized though!”
Last but not the least Hemaji agrees that Politics has happened in her life.” Belonging to the film domain we are very simple, straight and out spoken beings. We do not have anything bad in our hearts. So sometimes we get into hazels. I intend to be in politics merely because I want to help my people by making their livelihood happening. I do not intend to chair the post of any Minister what-so-ever. Whatever little social work I can do for my jurisdiction is what I will always be ready to do!”
